Intraoral Camera
The intraoral camera allows Dentists to painlessly and easily
photograph the inside of the patient's mouth.
The photographic image can then be reproduced and enlarged on
a color monitor for the patient and dentist to view together.
Existing or potential problems can be shown more clearly to
the patient. The Intraoral Camera allows Dentists to explain
problems and treatments more easily.
A San Francisco-based dentist, who has been in practice for 33
years, has outfitted his office with advanced technology and
claims these moves have made his practice safer, more
efficient, and educational for his patients.
"It's easier for them to deal with me, and
make the decisions that they need to make," said the Dentist,
who uses digital intraoral common in dentists' offices as it's
refined and PRECIOs drop.
Intraoral cameras, which can be used in
conjunction with a computer or with a television monitor, take
a picture of the outside of the tooth.
This is especially beneficial for patients
who may be suspicious or resentful of recommendations their
dentists give them, especially if they don't feel any
immediate pain.
"If you can see that your tooth is fractured
on a computer monitor, chances are you're going to [fix it]
before you need more serious work," said the Dentist.
Photos are easy to re-take and patients no
longer have to wait for the film to develop.
Some insurance companies have started
accepting email images, cutting down on the paper trail --
which is further reduced by so-called practice management
software that connects appointments, billing, and patient
records for streamlined file maintenance.
Patients also benefit from technology such
as periocharting, which records the depths of pockets between
the tooth and gums. The process utilizes voice recognition
software that records the dentist's observations about each
tooth and stores it in the computer.
Exchange of information between dental
professionals is also becoming easier for Dentists with this
new technology, who are in the process of setting up
videoconferences with an oral surgeon and endodonist to pre-screen
patients for certain procedures, saving consultation fees for
